The Key to Success

"Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do."
Joshua 1:8 (New Living Translation)

We can never underestimate the power of God's word to transform our lives and bring us into the destiny that God has for us. Joshua was about to step into the shoes of one of the greatest leaders of all time, and God's will was for him to take them into everything he had promised. But before he gave him any kind of special strategy for taking cities or conquering the nation, he first gave him the key to his ultimate success
- the word of God. Joshua was to think about it, chew it over  and speak it out loud day and night. Not only that, but he was to carefully obey everything that God said to him, with the promise that he would prosper and be successful in all that he put his hand to.

The Psalmist tells us of the man who delights and meditates on God's word being like a well watered tree who is prosperous and fruitful in all that he does (Psalms 1:2-3). Later, in Psalms 119, we find the young man who delights in God's commands and seeks to conform his life in every way is able to avoid sin and have abundant joy.

In Paul's letter to the church in Ephesus we see that the word of God actually cleanses us as it goes through us and makes us more and more into that perfect bride that Jesus will one day return for (Ephesians 5:26). Then, in his letter to young Timothy, he tells us that the word of God is alive, it is useful, and it will train and shape us in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16)

Even more than all these wonderful benefits that I have already mentioned is the fact that God's word shows us His character and His will. It allows us to get to know him better as we read it and meditate on the wonderful truths we see.

If you want to really see your life with God move into a whole new gear, to ditch old ways of thinking and old habits and be transformed into His image, then give yourself to God's word. Go to bed thinking about it, wake up thinking about and let it dwell in you richly.

God bless you.
